ToneUp has a number of image tools that may be used to enhance or alter your image

Saturation / Channel Mixer

The Saturation slider allows the user to reduce or boost the colour saturation of the image from zero to double the normal value.

The Channel Mixer is an important tool as it defines how ToneUp mixes Red, Green and Blue to work out the luminance of a pixel. As you adjust the Channel Mixer you will notice the values change colour, from blue to red. This is to indicate the change in luminance when compared to the original image. If the colour is Blue the images overall luminance has been reduced. If the colour is Red the images overall luminance has been increased.

White Balance / Tint

The White Balance tool is used to adjust the temperature of the image. ToneUp will attempt to determine what setting the shot was taken with (shown by the "As-Shot" slider) and allow you to set a new temperature (using the "New White Balance" slider).

You can also use the 'Estimate' button to ask ToneUp to analyse the image and calculate the optimal setting.

By default ToneUp uses assesses the entire image to work out the White Balance but you can use the crop tool to define a smaller region to be assessed.

Tip: define a region that covers something in the photo that should be white or neutral gray.
Tip: set the crop opacity to zero to allow you to see the entire image.

Brightness / Contrast / Exposure Compensation

This tool allows you to adjust the brightness, contrast and exposure of the image.

Color Balance

This tool allows you to adjust the color balance of the image. For example, if the image has a slight green tint to it you could remove some of the green by moving the green slider to the left.

The 'Maximise' button will set the sliders to the maximum values for each channel without blowing out any of the pixels.

Sharpness

This tool allows you to increase or decrease the sharpness of the image. For the best results please view the image at 100% zoom whilst adjusting the sharpness.

Window Docking

All tools can be docked (connected) together to form one large panel. This is useful for organising your layout and keeping things tidy.

To dock a window simply drag it near to the bottom of another tool until you see the mouse cursor change to a pointing hand. Release the mouse button.

To Undock a window right-click it and select 'Undock' from the popup menu.

Undo

The Undo feature stores the tool settings each time you click OK. To revert to the previous settings click 'Undo'. Note: there is no Redo feature at the present time.
