Step 1 - using the Mixer tool

A) Load the image you wish to convert to Black and White

B) Open the "Saturation / Channel mixer" tool by either pressing "D" or clicking on "Tool" and then "Saturation/Channel mixer"

C) Pick up the Saturation slider and drag it all the way to the left to completely desaturate the image. You will notice the image is now Black and White.

D) Using the Channel mixer sliders you can change the way ToneUp mixers Red, Green and Blue to arrive at the given greyscale value.

E) For this example pick up the Red channel mixer slider and move it to the right. As you slide you will notice the image become brighter. At the same time you will see the mixing values (shown to the left of the three sliders) start to become red. This indicates that the images lunimance is greater than the original image's.

F) If you drag the Red slider right over to the left you will notice the luminance of the image decrease and the mixing values change colour to blue.

G) Adjust the channel mixing until you are happy with the result.

H) Finished.
